NodeBuddies started small — two people who cared more about getting the architecture right than winning the pitch. We've grown since, but only as far as we can keep every project held to that same standard.

Howwegothere.
Not a founding myth — a short, honest log of how a two-person team turned into a studio. We keep it in engineer's terms because that's how it actually happened.

init: two people, one client, no roadmap
NodeBuddies started as a small freelance team taking on web projects — learning, mostly, what good engineering actually looks like when a real business is depending on it.
- 5f0b71dHEAD~2
refactor: from 'we build websites' to 'we build software'
The 2022 version of NodeBuddies was a website studio. As client problems got more complex — internal tools, integrations, infrastructure — the work outgrew that label.

feat: full product lifecycle ownership
We stopped handing projects off after launch. Discovery through deployment through the years of maintenance after — one team, start to finish.

docs: rebrand as a product engineering studio
Today NodeBuddies is a small, senior studio — the same standard we held ourselves to on day one, now applied to bigger, longer-term partnerships.
Howwethinkaboutthework.
Less a mission statement, more a set of defaults we don't compromise on — the things a client only notices when they're missing.
Systems, not screens
We design the architecture before the interface. Software that scales was engineered to — not styled to.
Ownership past launch
Deployment isn't the finish line. We stay attached to what we build, and we plan for that from day one.
One team, start to finish
No handoffs between agencies. The people who architect a system are the people who ship and maintain it.
Honest scoping
If a feature isn't worth building, we'll say so before it's on an invoice — even when that means a smaller project.
Written down, not tribal
Decisions, architecture, and handover are documented as we go, so the system outlives any one conversation.
Boring technology, on purpose
We choose tools for reliability and longevity, not for what's trending. Fewer surprises, five years from now.
Twofounders,stillhands-on.
NodeBuddies isn't run by account managers relaying requests to a bench of contractors. The people who scope your project are the people who build it.

Still a small team.
Still deeply involved.
If you're looking for a long-term engineering partner, we'd be happy to talk.
